The corona virus could not dampen the Christmas spirit for the parishioners of a Church in Chennai. As Carol Singing in the homes of people could not take place this year due to the pandemic, the English Choir of the ‘Church of Visitation of Our Lady’ sang carols inside the Church with the audience logging in via zoom.
The idea was mooted by Sanjay Pinto, lawyer & media personality. As soon as the Parish Priest Father Anthony Raj gave his nod, the Choir led by Maria O’Connor conducted rehearsals. Braving college exams, wedding preparations, work and other commitments, the Choristers, predominantly youngsters, seamlessly executed the event.
“This virtual visitation was so soul stirring and divine that zoom lifted its 40 minute session cap, enabling the choir to sing nineteen carols”, revealed Sanjay Pinto.
Parishioners were urged to play Santa by donating money to the Church bank account, for a charitable cause, which is what Christmas signifies – sharing.
