Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge was absent at the Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort. He stated that he had some eye problems and therefore he could not attend the event.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation on the event of its 77th Independence Day yesterday. Mallikarjun Kharge, however, hoisted the flag at the Congress office in Delhi, for the first time as party president. During his speech, he attacked the government which is unusual as the Congress party has traditionally avoided any attack on Independence Day.
PM Modi in his 10th Independence Day speech, attacked opposition parties especially the Congress and stated that the country should be freed from the three evils of corruption, nepotism and appeasement.
