A 40 year old woman from Coimbatore passed away after undergoing a botched abortion. The victim has been identified as Vanithamani wife of Selvaraj. She had contacted P. Muthulakshmi who was running an Ayurvedic Centre as she wanted to abort her 5 month old foetus. She already had 5 children, the eldest being 19 years old. She feared social stigma and hesitated to go to the Pollachi Government Hospital for the procedure.
She informed Muthulakshmi who gave her an injection and shifted her to the Ayurvedic Centre for further treatment. Vanithamani’s condition detiorated and her son rushed her to the Pollachi Government Hospital. However, Vanithamani died on the way. Her son Marimuthu lodged a police complaint. Muthulakshmi who is supposed to be a quack is on. the run after hearing about the incident.
