The Chief Justice of the Madras High Court Justice Vijaya Tahilramani had appealed to the Supreme Court Collegium to reconsider it’s recommendation transferring her as Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court. The Collegium had carefully gone through the representation and had taken all relevant factors into consideration.
It found that it was not possible to accede to her request and therefore, rejected the plea of Chief Justice Tahilramani on the ground that the transfers were in the interests of “better administration of justice” .The Collegium has recommended that Justice A.K. Mittal who is currently the Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court to take over from Justice Tahilramani as Chief Justice of the Madras High Court.
