Madras High Court Chief Justice Vijaya Kamlesh Tahilramani who tendered her resignation in protest against her transfer to the Meghalaya High Court, did not attend court on Monday. All the 75 cases that were listed before the First Bench were posted before the Second Bench headed by Justice Vineet Kothari. The Tamilnadu State Law Minister,C V Shanmugam is said to have met the Chief Justice at her residence.
The CJ had sent in her resignation to the President Ram Nath Kovind with a copy to the Chief Justice of India, Ranjan Gogoi. Legal experts said that the judge need not wait for her resignation to be accepted and she can stay away from the court. A group of lawyers held a demonstration outside the court premises. The Madras High Court Advocates Association has announced that they would boycott court proceedings on Tuesday.
