An all-women political party named National Women’s Party has been unveiled in Chennai by Dr Shweta Shetty a social activist activist and a medical professional. It is to represent women mainly the underprivileged and those who suffer from domestic abuse. The Tamilnadu division will be headed by Nithya Teju of Bigg Boss fame.
Currently there are only 11% of women in Parliament even though women have the right for 50% representation . The immediate plan is to contest in 20 constituencies in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Tamilnadu. Shweta said that winning or losing is not the point but they have taken the first step and that’s what matters.
