Biergarten opens in Koramangala and gives beer lovers another reason to drink and make merry
BY NAMITA GUPTA
It’s all about having a good time with buddies over beer and great grub. The hops, ales and lagers are always flowing freely and the food never disappoints. The newest addition to the growing number of Bengaluru’s breweries, Biergarten is already being loved by everyone for its beer garden concept teamed with a range of signature craft beers.
Interiors: A vast alfresco terrace space that looks out to a blue Bengaluru sky through a glass facade, there’s bar stools across a quirky-designed bar, communal wooden tables and also comfortable seating with plush sofas. Upholding the German spirit and celebration of drinking, Biergarten’s Whitefield brewery first brought the concept of beer gardens and now Koramangala gets its own beer garden and microbrewery. Bringing beer and nature together is Biergarten’s design philosophy. The expansive glass facade, plenty of open spaces, surrounded by verdant foliage, will make you forget that you are in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Koramangala.
Food: We began with the Bhatti ka prawns and Curry leaves prawns that are both delicious, buttery yet crunchy. Also try their Butter chicken sliders and Fish Kurkure besides other small plates like Rosemary Poutine (those Canadian style fries dunked in white, cheesy sauce), Paneer Khurchan quesadillas, Malabar Parotta Quesadillas, Soya Chaap — a Cheddar-stuffed tandoori soya chaap, with a nut crumble and Chilli Mushroom Galouti: smoked mushroom kebabs, Lal Maas Tacos, Biergarten German-style Sausages platter and regional favourites like Ghee Roast Prawns and Coorgi Chicken Wings. If you’re in mood for some chatpati chaats then try the Bombay Pao Bhaji, Ragada Patties and a quirky Jhalmoori Bar. For mains, we tried the Thai curry chicken with rice and found it extremely flavourful. The dessert menu has Belgian Chocolate Cake, Churros and the desi Jaggery Mousse Cake, but our pick of the day was the Bailey’s Cheesecake and it was just how we like it, baked and set to perfection.
Beer: Expect Biergarten’s roster of regular craft beers such as the Golden Ale, IPA, Red Ale, Vienna Lager and more. There will be Seasonal Beers too such as the Smoked Dunken Weizen — a ruby brown beer with notes of toffee, banana and raisin, and a hint of bacon. The Double IPA ABV – 7 per cent promises a stronger version of the inhouse IPA with even more hoppiness and bitterness. If freshly brewed craft beer doesn’t catch your fancy, then Biergarten’s Signature Cocktails menu can do its bit. The Naughty Sour, a walnut infused Bourbon whiskey, homemade apple brandy, apple juice, hazelnut syrup, fresh lime and egg white number ought to catch your fancy or maybe the Mosa — a gin, fresh sweet lime, basil and white wine concoction perked up with house crafted citrus bitters.
