With a view to combat the spread of Covid-19 pandemic, the Central Government may extend the three week lockdown period. A number of states like Maharashtra, Telangana, Punjab and Madhya Pradesh are in favour of continuing with the existing curbs. A final decision is expected shortly. Many State governments feel that the infection rate which is now stabilising can shoot up if free movement of people is allowed.
The likelihood of allowing trains, metros and flights to ply is very remote. The State and district borders too will remain sealed. Vice President Venkaiah Naidu said that the concerns about the economy can wait but those of health can’t. He appealed to the people to abide by the decision that will be taken by the government and requested for their cooperation even if it meant that the lockdown should continue.
