Even as Covid cases explode in Delhi, work on the Central Vista project continues
The Central Government has been drawing a lot of flak for proceeding with the Central Vista project that costs around 20,000 crore. At a time when people are battling Corona, there is a shortage of oxygen supplies and vaccines, the Modi Government has been repeatedly asked to divert these funds to the health sector to save lives but the project has been declared as an essential service and work continues with construction workers being given permission to work on the site.
The ambitious project that is progressing in Delhi amidst the lockdown is reported to have a new parliament with the current 100 year old building being converted to a museum. It would also have open grounds, Government offices and a new residence for the Prime Minister is also expected by 2024. People from all sections of the society have expressed their concern about the Covid situation in the country and have questioned the need for such a project at a time like this but the PMO’s office has refused to comment.
