Bhageerathi Amma from Kollam has made headlines for becoming the oldest equivalency course student in the history of the Kerala State Literacy Mission Authority. At the age of 105, she cleared all her Class 4 papers – English, Malayalam, Environment and Mathematics. The results were announced recently and she scored 205 out of 275 marks.
Bhageerathi dropped out from school after completing Class 3 to take care of her younger siblings and therefore could not complete her education. She then got married and had 6 children. She lost her husband early in life and had to bring up all her 6 children single handedly. After finishing all her duties, age did not deter this centenarian and she returned to study in 2019 to pick up from where she left. She is said to be a smart student who seems to be very eager to continue her studies.
