For the past two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, celebrations for Ganesh Chaturthi were curbed. Hence, this year celebrations are expected to be on a bigger scale.
The 10 day festival began throughout the country today. The idols of Lord Ganesha, the god of prosperity and wisdom and a slayer of obstacles will be installed in homes of people. Household Ganpatis were brought with chants of ‘Ganpati Bappa Morya’. Devotees thronged the markets to purchase vegetables, flowers, fruits, sweets, puja materials and decorative items.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Draupadi Murmu greeted the people of India on this festival. The PM wished that the spirit of kindness and brotherhood would always prevail.
Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated to mark the birth of the god of wisdom and is worshipped before beginning anything new.
