Multi-brand fashion boutique Bungalow 8 will shut down its doors on April 30 after 16 years in fashion. The boutique cited India’s changing retail landscape as the reason. Bungalow 8 also cited that Indian retail has faced a shift in fashion due to the immediacy of social media. The boutique features an array of clothing, jewellery, accessories, and antique homeware from Indian and international brands.
The brand is currently holding a sale until it closes at the end of the month and is sharing memories of its 16-year history on social media. As fashion e-commerce booms and social media change consumer’s approach to shopping, offline retail is forced to adapt.
Bungalow 8 was founded in 2003 as a concept store for luxury fashion and was named as one of Wallpaper* UK’s top 10 stores in the world. In 2006, the boutique moved to Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium with a 2,500 square foot large retail space where it currently resides. The brand also launched a line of womenswear in 2009 under the name Bungalow and forayed into menswear in 2011.
