The Olive Bistro has become increasingly popular with Hyderabadis since its launch a few months ago. Perched high up with a view of the Durgam Cheruvu lake, with al fresco and indoor dining, the Bistro serves European and Mediterranean food.
Cashing in on its popularity, the Bistro launched its Sunday Brunch. The brunch menu is vast, to say the least. Starters included Truffle Scented Mushroom Pate on Garlic Crostini, Cottage Cheese Tartlets, Citrus Marinated Fried Chicken, All Vegetable Pizza, Smoked Chicken & Jalapeño Pizza, Garden Veg Fritters, Cheddar & Jalapeno Poppers, Crumbed Chicken & Marinated Mozzarella Bites etc. We tried almost everything and the must-haves include the Mushroom Pate, the All Veg Pizza and the Jalapeno poppers.
The brunch also includes the Courtyard Grill which is set outside in the open. Here one could choose from Balsamic Marinated Sweet Potato Skewers, Curry Pesto Marinated Vegetable Skewers, Chermoula Marinated Cottage Cheese Steak, Jerk Spice Marinated Fish Cakes, Paprika & Roast Garlic Marinated Chicken Legs, Minute Steak with a choice of sides like Fennel and Potato Mash, Slow Grilled tomatoes and onions, Creamy Spinach etc. We recommend the Sweet Potato Skeweres, the Chicken Steak and the Minute Steak – all full of flavor and well made. You can choose the sauce you want with your grilled dish too.
There was also a spread of interesting salads on a boat shaped counter besides the breads baked inhouse. An interesting addition to the brunch was eggs – Eggs Benedict and Eggs Florentine. I was too full to sample them but could see many guests having them with gusto.
For the mains, there was a Live Pasta Station with a choice of pastas , vegetables, flavours and sauces. And the buffet counter included Seasonal Vegetable Fricassee , Herbed Moroccan Chicken Tagine, Saffron Pilaf. We recommend the chicken and the Saffron Pilaf.
Now for the best part – desserts. There was a huge spread and Chef Vikram had outdone himself here. From Crème Catalan to Berry Baked Cheese Cake, Banoffee Pie, Chocolate Truffle & Nougatine Gateaux, Walnut & Sultana Brownies, Pineapple Moist Cake, Dark Chocolate Fondue with Homemade marshmallows, Poached Fruits and Toasted Brownies – there was something to appease to every kind of palate. Chef Vikram says the idea behind the menu is to provide comfort food in a relaxing ambience. The food spread is deliberately kept vast so that there is something for everyone – whether someone wants to spend an hour over beer and starters or indulge in grilled food.
And keeping the laidback Hyderabadi spirit, the brunch timings stretch from 12 noon to 4 pm so one can really have a nice, long lunch.
