Larry King, a long time syndicated radio host, passed away on Saturday. He was 87. His end came at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre at Los Angeles. No cause of death was given.
Larry was a syndicated radio host from 1985 through 2010 and won many honours including two Peabody awards. He was famous for his celebrity interviews, political debates and topical discussions. He conducted around 50,000 on-air interviews.
His shows frequently broke celebrity news, including Michael Jackson’s family members and friends talking about his untimely death in 2009, about Paris Hilton who spoke about her stint in jail in 2007 etc. It is said that Larry never over-prepared for an interview. His style helped his guests to relax and could readily relate to the audience. He is also known for getting guests who were elusive. He got Frank Sinatra who rarely ever gave interviews. Larry also got Marlon Brando on his show in 1994 and the two hit off famously on their 90 minute talk. Larry retired from the show in 2010 and named British journalist and TV personality Piers Morgan as his successor.
The Larry King show from Washington was heard on more than 300 stations and it made him a national phenomenon. His show ”Larry King Live”was CNN’s highest rated program. His initial salary of $1,00,000 a year eventually grew to more than $7 million.
