Mahesh Basavanna and Chandrashekhar Basavanna, started KIRU by OrgTree with a mission to bring in the goodness of millets in the form of snacks that can be consumed through the day. The company’s core value is to strive for a healthier world by providing consumers with nutritious and tasty snacks. The founding principle of OrgTree is pivoted around farmers: by involving the farmers in producing these snacks, from growing the crops and until the manufacturing of finished products, thus enabling their and the region’s economic development, practicing sustainability to the core. The community social initiative today employs 200 farmers directly or indirectly.
The sibling duo has grown up with millets, which was the staple food of their forefathers in the region (Mandya). With a history of almost 3000+ years, Millets, are now considered the lost grain, which was once a pride of the region. The founders were keen on re-introducing the lost grain back to the communities. This gave rise to Kiru, an all-day snacking option with millets.
