Bride calls off wedding after she was dragged to the dance floor

A bride called off her wedding in Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh after she was dragged to the dance floor by friends of the groom. It is said that the bride’s family also filed a complaint of dowry against the family of the groom. The father of the girl stated that his daughter cannot be forced to marry a man who does not respect her and they returned from the wedding venue without solemnizing the marriage.

The girl’s family is from Kannauj district while the boy’s family hails from a village in Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh. Both the prospective bride and groom are post graduates. The marriage was arranged with the consent of both the families. All arrangements were made for a grand wedding. Everything went on smoothly till the incident when the bride was forcibly dragged to the dance floor. It led to a heated argument between both the families. Ultimately the wedding was called off. It is alleged that the girl’s family filed a complaint of dowry against the family of the groom. However no FIR was filed as they reached a settlement. The groom’s family tried to convince the girl’s family to rearrange the wedding in a simple manner but their efforts were in vain.
