The book ‘An Unlikely Chemistry – Autobiography of a Couple”’ written by Dr. S. Krishnaswamy, and published by M/s. Rupa Publications, Delhi was launched by Shri Banwarilal Purohit, Hon’ble Governor of Tamil Nadu, on Monday, April 23, 2018 at GRT Grand Hotel, Chennai. Mr. Dibakar Ghosh, Editorial Director of Rupa Publications, welcomed the gathering. The first copy of the book was received by Shri N. Ravi, Publisher of the Hindu Group of Publications and former Editor-in-Chief of The Hindu. Mr Justice K. Chandru (retd), popular novelist Smt. Sivasankari, veteran film artiste Smt. Sowcar Janaki and journalist Shri S. Gurumurthy were the guests of honor.
A video benediction given by Poojya Swami Gautamanandaji, Vice President, Sri Ramakrishna Math & Mission, Belur was screened. The Governor and all other speakers showered praise on Dr. S. Krishnaswamy and Dr. Mohana Krishnaswamy for their half a century of contributions to the nation as documentary and television filmmakers on the one hand, and expressed their admiration for the sincerity and conviction reflected by the book – portraying not merely the personal story of the couple, but also the societal and political milieu of the last several decades in a very readable and entertaining manner. The title of the book signifies how and why scientist Mohana had to give up her pursuit of research in Ayurveda at a juncture of receiving international acclaim due to national policies, and join her husband’s highly principled media company – and how their ‘chemistry’ has worked almost miraculously covering many tough roads and earthquakes – both figuratively and practically. The event concluded with a short speech by Dr. Mohana and a Vote of Thanks by the author, Dr. Krishnaswamy
