Bob Dylan has sold his entire back catalog of recorded music together with rights to multiple future new releases to Sony Music Entertainment. The financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
Bob Dylan had earlier sold his songwriting rights to Universal in 2020 and the deal was estimated to be around $300 million. This deal is separate and not connected with the deal with Sony in any way.
Industry reports say that the latest deal with Sony was worth more than $200 million. Dylan was signed to Sony’s Columbia Records in 1961 and he recorded his debut album that year.
Rob Stringer, the Chairman of Sony Music Group stated that they have had a special relationship with Bob Dylan right from the start of his career and that they are proud of the ongoing 60 year partnership.
Dylan is also proud of his partnership with Sony and declared that he is glad that all his recordings can stay where they belong.
