The UAE government has set aside the marriage rules and issued birth certificate to a girl born to a Hindu father and a Muslim mother. As per the marriage rules for expatriates in UAE, a Muslim man can marry a non Muslim woman but a Muslim woman cannot marry a non Muslim man. In this case, a Sharjah based Kiran Babu married Sanam Saboo Siddique in Kerala in 2016 and a daughter was born in July 2018 in the UAE.
After the baby was born, the birth certificate was rejected as the father was a Hindu. The UAE had declared 2019 as the year of Tolerance to bridge the gap between various cultures. Taking advantage of this liberal declaration, the couple approached the court and proved their case. They were then granted birth certificate for their daughter Anamta
