Five of his films won the National award for best feature film
Bengali Filmmaker Buddhadeb Dasgupta passed away in his residence in South Kolkatta after not keeping well due to a kidney illness. He was 77. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee took to social media to convey her condolence. She wrote, “Saddened at the passing away of eminent filmmaker Buddhadeb Dasgupta. Through his works, he infused lyricism into the language of cinema. His death comes as a great loss for the film fraternity. Condolences to his family, colleagues and admirers (sic).”
Five of Buddhadeb’s films won the National award for Best feature film while two films won him the award for Best Director. He was known for Bagh Bahadur, Lal Darja, Kaalpurush, and the Mithun Chakraborty-starrer Tahader Katha.
