Prime Minister of New Zealand Jacinda Ardern said that all military style semi -automatic and assault rifles will be banned under the new  gun laws following the mass shooting of 50 people in a mosque recently. The attack was labelled as an act of terrorism and on behalf of all New Zealanders it was decided  to strengthen gun laws and to  make New Zealand a safer place and hence the new law would come into being.

It would come into force by April 11th and a buy back scheme costing up to New Zealand 200 million Dollars would be established for banned weapons. Australia had banned  semi- automatic weapons and launched a  gun buy back scheme after the Port Arthur massacre  in 1996. In a similar way, the law would be strictly enforced in New Zealand as well. It is a small country which has 5 million people and the Prime Minister hoped to get cooperation from all the citizens.
