The two accused in Subasri’s case had filed bail applications before the Madras High Court. On sensing that the judge was unlikely to grant bail, they sought to withdraw their applications. The court came down strongly on the accused and said that if they had been responsible political leaders, instead of going into hiding with their families, they would have surrendered to the police immediately after the death of Subasri. The police were able to arrest them only on September 27th.
The court observed that in order to welcome one man’s daughter- in-law, another man’s daughter had lost her life due to the illegal banners put up by them in Pallikaranai. The court was not inclined to grant bail as both the accused were local politicians and there was a strong possibility of the duo making attempts to influence the witnesses. The bail petitions of both AIADMK functionaries S.Jayagopal and his brother -in – law Meghanathan were dismissed as withdrawn.
