A woman from U.S. has successfully given birth to a healthy baby from a 25 year old frozen embryo. It is said to be the longest frozen human embryo. The embryo was originally frozen on October 14th 1992.It was thawed for implantation in March this year. The previous oldest frozen embryo was 20 years old.
Tina Gibson is the proud mother of a baby girl. Her husband Benjamin Gibson suffered from cystic fibrosis and thus the couple could not conceive normally. They signed up for embryo adoption and underwent a series of medical examinations to check if Tina’s uterus would be physically capable of receiving an implanted embryo. They then selected this 25 year old frozen embryo that was created for in vitro fertilization by another anonymous couple. The baby girl has been named as Emma Wren Gibson.
