For lovers of Chinese food, the way it is actually made in some regions of China, and mostly served at restaurants all over the world, the Absolutely Oriental festival at the Golden Dragon, Taj Krishna is a must go food fest. With dishes created by Masterchef Shi Yuhane who is from the award winning Black Lotus at the Taj Chandigarh, the food is different yet full of flavour and taste.
The food is essentially that of the mainland China region and the subtle spicing and unusual dishes will have you craving for more. The ten-day festival aims to offer an array of traditional dishes such as Wok fried chilli lotus stems, Chilli Garlic Chicken Wings, Konjee Crispy Lamb, Steamed chicken and chive dumplings, Exotic vegetables with burnt garlic, Crispy corn kernels and plenty more.
We tasted the Tofu chai chin, Shang dong roast chicken,[excellent] the Wok fried Honey Chilli Lotus Stem, Chicken Szechwan in the ring of spinach, Prawn with spring onion dumpling etc. The mains included Vegetable Lemon Garlic Noodles and steamed fish in ginger onion sauce along with Silken tofu, mushroom and peas in garlic sauce. Every dish had a unique flavour and though bland, you could taste the other spices like star anise used in the recipe. The steamed fish had a touch of spice thanks to the ginger onion sauce and I doubt anything this healthy can taste as good as this did.
The desserts included Daar saan, and Date cream Brulee.
It is not often that one gets a chance to eat food cooked by a chef of Chef Yuhane’s calibre. So if you like sampling new flavours, do make it a point to visit Golden Dragon.
The a la carte festival is open for lunch (12:00 Noon – 3:30 PM) and dinner (7:30 PM – 11:45 PM). For reservations please call 91 040 6629 3309
