In a first-of-its-kind, a saree walkathon will be held in London in which around 500 saree clad women will take part to mark National Handloom Day on August 7. This walkathon is to raise awareness about Indian handloom.
The women who are participating in this walkathon will wear sarees from different states of India and walk past historical landmarks on August 6. The walkathon will start from Trafalgar Square and proceed to Parliament Square in Westminster through 10 Downing Street.
This event is organised by the British Women in Sarees group and supported by the Inspiring Indian Women group.The British Women in Sarees group is a group of empowered women who take pride in flaunting handloom sarees. It is a non-profit organisation and organises events to promote the heritage of India, to raise awareness of the hardwork and artistry that is behind weaving sarees and to support and connect with weavers and artisans.
