Archeologists in Peru, who are working on a site on the outskirts of capital Lima, have unearthed a mummy that is between 800-1200 years old.
It is believed to be the remains of a man around 18-22 years of age. The man was found to be covering his face at the time of his death. It was found in a burial chamber at the dig site in Cajamarquilla, about 24 kilometres, east of the capital, Lima.
Archeologist Peter Van Dalen, who is in charge of the project, said that the mummy should be at least 800 years old. Besides the mummy, skeletons of a guinea pig and a dog were found. Traces of corn and vegetables were also found in the burial chamber.
Cajamarquilla was built around 200 BC and was occupied till about 1500 BC. It was an urban centre that could have been home to around 10,000- 20,000 people.
