Chennai lass R.Anupama took up snooker just by chance three years ago. During her summer holidays, she had to make a choice between chess and snooker and she chose the latter. After her holidays were over,she decided to continue with the game and she trained at the Mylapore Club. She tasted success and won the inaugural edition of the IBSF world U-16 open snooker championship for girls at St.Petersburg, Russia.
This 15 year old girl attributes her success to her parents who were pillars of support for her.She said that she had to miss out on school as she had to attend a lot of tournaments outside chennai and that she found Mathematics a little difficult. However her teacher gave her special coaching when she returned from tournaments.. She said that she would keep on playing the sport as long as she enjoyed it.She hopes to make a career out of snooker.
