Protestors took to the streets across the country protesting against the CAA which is the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and the proposed National Register of Citizens. Two people were killed in police firing in Mangaluru. Police also lathi charged protestors in the coastal town of Mangaluru and opened fire and claimed that protestors were trying to set fire to a police station. Protests were also held in Mumbai, Kolkata, Jammu, Lucknow, Thiruvananthapuram, Chennai, Patna and in several other towns. People from all backgrounds, age groups and professions responded to calls given by the Opposition parties against the CCA.
In Chennai, many gathered at Valluvar Kottam on the fourth day of protests against the new legislation despite denial of police permission for a demonstration. Similar protests were also held in the other parts of the State.
