It’s the kind of food that may not be very picture friendly or Instagram perfect as it is served buffet style, but it is definitely extremely high on flavours and bang on taste. This month, in celebration of Karnataka Rajyotsava, Cubbon Pavilion is celebrating a cuisine as wholesome to the culture of the state. Discover the authentic taste of the cuisine of Mangalore under the aegis of ITC Masterchefs, who bring to the table a rich culinary heritage perfected and embellished through many years of experience.
Authentic to the very essentials, the exquisite menu features Mangalorean specialities such as Prawn Ghee Roast (unique preparation of prawn cooked in red chili and ghee), Chicken Ghee Roast (boneless chicken cooked in red chili and ghee), Kori Saar (chicken cooked in chilly and coconut based gravy native to the region), Mutton Sukka (spicy mutton cooked with chili and dry grated coconut), Yetti Gassi (authentic Mangalorean prawn curry cooked in a rich coconut gravy). Don’t miss tasting the Mutton biryani (tender pieces of lamb and basmati rice, mixed in chosen Mangalorean spices). Both the chicken and lamb are so succulent and delectable, you might want to ask for a second helping.
Vegetarians will love the Paneer ghee roast (a unique preparation of paneer cooked in flavored red chili paste and ghee), Bolu Huli (spicy Mangalorean style lentil stew made with eggplant), Pineapple Menaskai (a delicious spicy, sweet, and tangy pineapple curry cooked with homemade spices), Dali Toye (Mansoor Dal cooked in Mangalorean style), Kai Sassive Anna (rice cooked with coconut and curry leaves) and Jackfruit Biriyani (unripe Jackfruit cooked with basmati rice and a medley of Indian spices) amongst others. End the meal on a sweet note with some hot and fresh Appi Payasam (Rice flour pancakes cooked in sweetened milk). Wash it down with a refreshing and healthy kokum juice.
