US actor Alec Baldwin is being sued by a ”Rust” crew member due to the fatal on-set shooting of a cinematographer last month. The accidental killing was said to have been caused by the negligent acts and omissions of lead actor and producer Baldwin and others.
During the shooting of a scene in the 19th century, Baldwin fired a gun at the camera and cinematographer Hutchins was shot and killed. The bullet also hit director Joel Souza in the shoulder, The film’s armourer was 24 year old Gutierrez Reed who was responsible for firearms and ammunition.
An investigation is going on as to how live rounds ended up in the dummies box. Baldwin suggested that police officers should be stationed on sets that use weapons and called the tragedy a ”one in a trillion episode”.
The incident has sparked calls for the banning of functional weapons on Hollywood sets.
