Acting CJ of Madras High Court made Chief Justice

Justice Munishwar Nath Bhandari, the Acting Chief Justice of the Madras High Court has been made the Chief Justice. A communication to this effect was signed by the President and issued today.


Justice Bhandari became the Acting Chief Justice of the Madras High Court on November 22, 2021. He was born on September 30, 1960 and enrolled as a lawyer in May 1983.
He was elevated to the bench of the Rajasthan High Court in July, 2007. He was then transferred to the Allahabad High Court in March 2019. From there, he was transferred to the Madras High Court following the transfer of Justice Sanjib Banerjee to the Meghalaya High Court in November last year. The transfer of Justice Banerjee had raised several controversies and witnessed protests by lawyers in Tamil Nadu.
