Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan has issued an official statement announcing divorce from his wife Kiran Rao. The couple has been married for 15 years and have a son Azad Rao Khan.
The couple will live separately but would remain devoted to their son and would nurture and raise him together. They had planned the separation long back but are comfortable to implement it now. They will also continue to work as collaborators on films, Paani Foundation and other projects.
They thanked their families and friends for their support and understanding. They have requested for good wishes and blessings and wish to see the divorce not as an end but as the beginning of a new journey.
Aamir and Kiran met on the sets of Lagaan in 2001. They dated for a few years before getting married in December 2005. Their only son Azad was born through surrogacy in 2011.
Aamir was married to Reena Dutta earlier. They got divorced in 2002 after 16 years of marriage. Aamir has a daughter Ira and son Junaid from his first marriage..
