If you’re someone who thrives on food memories, then the newly opened home-turned-restaurant माँia (pronounced as Maya) is exactly where you should be heading to. It is for people to come and experience authentic mothers’ recipes from across all boundaries, be it state, country or continents. An initiative by an aunt Sejal Shah and her nephew Ishan Shah; the concept of माँia took birth as a movement to give mothers and grandmothers at home a platform to share and showcase their recipes. Along with this, it also takes upon itself to celebrate the mother in all aspects.
This all-day dining destination has a 110 cover Cafe, a Cook Studio for every mother to showcase their “handed down over generations” recipes, a banquet space for 80 people, a Patisserie selling fresh artisanal baked goods, a ‘Shop-in-Shop’ retail space, a Baby Feeding & Care station and its very own cheese making den. The restaurant is spread over three levels with an alfresco dining area beside a water body and open-to-air decks on the levels above. The artsy birds on the walls and tables add to the welcoming decor of the stunning interiors.
माँia- ‘Eat – Bake – Mom’ is a 100% vegetarian restaurant promoting a ‘Farm-to-Fork’ concept. The house specialities include the sandalwood and camphor aromatic kebabs, the kathal biryani, the hand-rolled gnocchi in a burnt butter sauce, the roasted pumpkin soup and the vermicilli nest with halwasan to name a few. We loved the sandalwood and camphor infused aromatic minced veg kebabs that were flavoursome and melted in the mouth. The roasted pumpkin soup and the Minestrone Soup, a classic Italian tomato based clear soup was warm and delicious and perfect for the nip in the air in the winter month in Bengaluru. Those watching their calories will love the Burrata and Roasted Beetroot Salad, which is oven roasted beetroot with fresh Burrata cheese and ruccola leaves in a balsamic and olive oil dressing. The Urad Daal Lasooni pairs well with steamed rice and is a dish that is bound to remind you of a heavenly homecooked fingerlicking comfort food. We also liked the simple flavours of the homemade fettucini in besciamella sauce, but what really won us over were the soft, smoked, tender and piquant Mushroom Galauti Kebabs. End your meal on a sweet note with a creamy yet light, fluffy and tasty chocolate mousse. As a mother would, there are no distinctions within the team. The team comprises of people from all over India, from varied backgrounds as well as a few physically challenged team members making this one big happy service family.
