A civic activist, Kamakshi Subramaniyam, 94 years old, is contesting in the upcoming Tamil Nadu local body elections from Besant Nagar, Chennai. She promises to bring about a change if people vote for her.
Affectionately called Kamakshi Paati, she has been working for many years under the banner of SPARK, a civic forum that she co-founded. She has been fighting for restoration of water bodies, repairing of storm water drains in the city as well as restoration of the Karl Schmidt Memorial at Elliot’s Beach.
She was born in Thanjavur, studied in Bangalore and then shifted to Delhi after her marriage. She moved to Chennai in 1980. She was always interested in politics and in taking up the cause of civic issues.
Kamakshi has gone for in-person campaigning only once but her team of volunteers are campaigning for her in person and on social media. For Kamakshi age is just a number.
