A total number of 75 people have been injured in fire accidents caused by bursting of crackers. Twenty eight people including four children were admitted in Kilpauk Government Hospital after they sustained burn injuries. A number of fire vans were deployed in crowded areas to prevent any mishaps and fire accidents.
As a precautionary measure, a special ward with 10 beds was set up at the Kilpauk Government Hospital to deal with fire accident cases. More than 50% of the injuries were caused by flower pots and 30% were caused by atom bombs. According to doctors, injuries caused by fire crackers have significantly come down due to awareness campaigns on the ill-effects of using crackers and also the green initiative that has been propogated in a number of schools.
