67 percent turnout in LS polls

The second phase of the Lok Sabha elections for 95 constituencies registered a tentative turnout of 67 percent across 11 States and one Union Territory. The highest turnout was recorded in Puducherry with 78 percent votes followed by Manipur with 77.86 percent and West Bengal with 76.42 percent.

Tamilnadu which went to the polls sans Dravidian stalwarts M Karunanidhi’s and J Jayalalitha recorded an average turnout of 71.11 percent in the 38 constituencies. Polling in Vellore was cancelled due to alleged use of money to influence the voters. An average of 71.62 percent voters turned out to exercise their franchise in the 18 Assembly seats where by-election was held simultaneously in the State.
