The city of Bengaluru is reeling under a severe water shortage. Earlier this month, the Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board had recommended economical use of drinking water due to the crisis.
The BWSSB has now fined 22 families for using drinking water for washing cars and gardening. Each family had to pay a fine of Rs 5000 for violation of the water supply boards order to conserve water.
The Board has collected Rs 1,1 lakh in fines from the 22 households of different areas of the city.Repeat offenders will be fined an additional Rs 500 every time they violate the order.
The acute water crisis has forced city residents to work from home. eat in disposable dishes and use toilets at malls.
