Fire broke out on the 12th floor of a building in Parel. Four people were killed and 23 including 3 firemen were injured. Fourteen fire engines swung into action to douse the flames. Braving the heat and the smoke, the fire brigade managed to rescue 35 people.
However it was a 10 year old girl who saw to it that her family members and neighbours remained safe by putting into practice what she learned in a school project on disaster management. She first ensured that everyone kept calm and made everyone to tie wet cotton wraps around their faces and took them to a neighbours house that had less smoke and informed the fire brigade.
